	Meeting of Joachim and Anne at the Golden Gate (Christian narrative)

Note: Narrative in which Anne and Joachim were pious but childless; childlessness was considered a sign of God's disfavor. Joachim has gone to the desert to fast and pray. When he returns to Jerusalem, he and Anne meet at the Golden Gate, after angels have informed each of them of her conception of Mary, who will be the mother of Jesus. A child conceived by an elderly mother was believed to be destined for greatness. From the Protoevangelium of James and other apocryphal accounts.
