	Ahasuerus (Old Testament character, husband of Esther)

Note: Although this Persian royal name appears in several places in the Old Testament, it appears most prominently in the Book of Esther. The intrigues of the king’s court provide the biblical origin of the festival of Purim. He is listed immediately preceding Artaxerxes I in the line of Persian kings, which would identify him as Xerxes.
