Martyrdom of Saint George (Christian iconography)

Note: Narrative of how George, under an edict from Diocletian that all Christian soldiers be killed, refused to renounce his faith, thus was tortured and executed. According to the legend, he converted to Christianity the Empress Alexandra and others by his example, and they were also executed. In the eastern tradition, George Slaying the Dragon is an allegory for his execution.
