Miracle of the Holy House of Loreto (Christian iconography)

Note: Narrative in which Empress Helena made a pilgrimage to Nazareth and directed that a basilica be erected over the house where she believed that the Virgin Mary had been born and received the Annunciation, and then had been converted into a church by the Twelve Apostles. When the house was threatened with destruction by the Turks, legend states that it was carried by angels through the air and eposited in 1291 on a hill at Tersatto, Croatia. The legend continues, the was later carried by angels to Loreto, Italy, and remains as a cottage within the large basilica there.
