Cultural Crossroads of the Americas (art, public; Bob Haozous (Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache sculptor and met...; 1996; Albuquerque (Bernalillo, New Mexico, United States, North an...)
Note: Commissioned by the University of New Mexico; depicts two scenes split by a thick black border in the form of a factory. On one side, figures depicted in Pre-Columbian Mexican visual styles are shown traveling towards the center of the sculpture, while a cityscape containing the Statue of Liberty and McDonald's arches completes the other side. Up until 2000, a fence made of barbed wire was placed on top of the billboard-shaped sculpture. This feature, meant to evoke the border between the United States and Mexico, was removed by the commissioner due to a clause in the agreement allowing for minor changes to the work. The rest of the sculpture still stands on the university's campus.
