Gospel Lectionary (lectionary; unknown Ottonian; late 10th century; J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles, Los Angeles county, Calif...; Ms. 16; 85.MD.317)
Note: Collection of Gospel selections to be read during the Mass, with important feast days singled out. The style of the lush deocrated initials indicates a creation place of monasteries in Reichenau, Germany or Saint Gall, Switzerland, both near the modern Swiss-German border. The manuscript is the product of an era following the reconstitution of Charlemagne's Holy Roman Empire under Otto I in 962, which ushered in a new era of luxury art production.
