Note: The island of Reichenau is located in the west arm of Lake Constance in southwestern Germany. It was famed in the Middle Ages as a center of art and culture, having a college known for producing many bishops and archbishops, and a rich Benedictine monastery that lasted from 724 until 1803. It remained independent until 1540. It is now part of the city of Konstanz. |
