Note: The print is a variant of the one issued by Sergent and censored during Spring 1789: Convoi de tres haut et tres puissant seigneur des abus, mort sous le règne de Louis XVI le 27 avril 1789 (A Paris : Chez Sergent ..., [1789]); Key in the lower margin to the figures in the procession, lettered A to M; The allegorical print on the abuses and the decadence of the Ancien Régime is represented by a funeral procession of the "Lord of Abuses" who is said to have died on May 4, 1789, the eve of the opening of the Estates General at Versailles; On the left, the nobility and the clergy proceed through a ruined edifice and a deserted landscape, headed by finance minister Jacques Necker. On the right, victims of the Lord of Abuses, Rousseau, Latude, Sirven, Joan of Arc, Calas, Salmon, and Monbailly, stand near trophies of music and the arts; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no.
