Note: "Cet homme chamarre de paille / Par ses grimaces et son chant, / Excroque a la sotte canaille / De quoy rire et boire d'autant" --engraved in the plate's lower margin; The signature in the lower left corner of the image may be that of Gérard Scotin, son of the sculptor Pierre Scotin and father of several printmakers including Gérard-Jean-Baptiste Scotin (1671-1716) (cf. Portalis/Béraldi, t. 3, p. 534); A representation of a figure standing on a platform holding a book, next to a pole with a placard bearing the caption: "Chansons / Ie suis la fleur ...". The etching was issued by the publisher Henri Bonnart, who was established on rue Saint-Jacques in Paris at the sign of Le Coq; Portion of watermark: coat of arms [?] with fleur-de-lys.
