Note: An architect and painter from Haraucourt (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Joseph Chamant followed Francis Stephen of Lorraine to Tuscany in 1738, and from 1747 was in the service of the emperor in Vienna; Florentine painter, draftsman and etcher, who was active in Florence and Rome; The print depicts the funerary decoration designed by Joseph Chamant for the obsequies of Elisabeth-Charlotte, Duchess of Lorraine, celebrated in the Church of San Lorenzo, Florence, on March 27, 1745; Impressions of the etching were issued with Rosso Antonio Martini's funeral book Esequie della serenissima Elisabetta Carlotta d'Orleans, duchessa vedova di Lorena ... (In Firenze : Nella Stamperia Granducale per li Tartini, e Franchi, 1745); Library has another impression of the etching folded and bound into Rosso Antonio Martini's Esequie della serenissima Elisabetta Carlotta d'Orleans, duchessa vedova di Lorena ..; Trimmed within plate mark and glued to mount annotated and numbered in brown ink: "Giuseppe Chamant", "114 e 115", "97", "89"; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
