Yi Sumin (Korean painter and court artist, 1783-1839)
|
Note: Yi Sumin was a court painter at the Royal Bureau of Painting (Dohwaseo) in the late Joseon period who worked for various temporary offices installed for court events. From 1811 to 1835 he served as a painter-in-waiting (chabi daeryeong hwawon). His landscape paintings generally display strong influences from Kim Hongdo (1745-after 1806), but he also produced paintings in the style of the Ma-Xia School like his grandfather Yi Seongrin (1718-1777). In paintings of Buddhist and Daoist figures, he continued the tradition of the styles of Sim Sajeong (1707-1769) and Kim Hongdo. |
