Galeries du Louvre manufactory (French carpet workshop, established 1608)
|
Note: May be considered a workshop or division of the Savonnerie carpet manufactory. In 1608 Pierre Dupont (1577-1640) obtained a license to manufacture carpets in the Turkish manner in a workshop under the Galeries du Louvre in Paris. A second site was established In 1627 Dupont and his former pupil Simon Lourdet (d 1671) became partners and were granted an 18-year concession for the production of carpets in a disused soap-works (savonnerie) near the Colline de Chaillot in Paris; due to discord between the two founders, Dupont continued to use the Louvre workshop. |
