Yi Ching (Korean painter and court artist, 1581-after 1653)
|
Note: Yi Jing was a member of the Joseon royal family and a painter active in the mid- Joseon period. The son of Yi Gyeongyun (1545-1611) and a concubine, Yi Jing was a royal family member who became of court painter. Records state that he served as a court painter at various state events from 1605 onward. He demonstrated remarkable skill with paintings of landscapes, figures, birds and animals, bamboo, and orchids. He was recognized as one of the leading painters during the reign of King Injo (r. 1595-1649) for his excellence at paintings with gold-pigment and was referred to as a national artisan known as "gukgong" or "guksu" and a divine calligrapher "sinpil". |
