Hallensleben, Ruth (German photographer, 1898-1977)

Note: Born 1 June 1898; died 18 April 1977. From 1931 to 1934, Hallensleben trained as a photographer in Cologne, under portrait photographer Elsebeth Gropp. In 1934, Hallensleben opened a studio in Cologne. From 1935 to 1936, she photographed throughout Germany, hoping to sell her images as book illustrations. In 1936, Hallensleben received her first industrial photography commission from an axel factory called the Bergische Achsenfabrik. By 1938, Hallensleben had become an expert in the field of industrial photography. From 1938 to 1943, Hallensleben photographed the war effort. She produced photographs of East Prussia, Belgium, Poland and France. Hallensleben lived in Wiehl, Germany, from 1943 to ca. 1961. In 1972, she illustrated a book on the city of Cologne, Germany. She retired in 1973.
