Shankland, Edward Clapp (American engineer, 1854-1924)
|
Note: Born 2 August 1854; died 2 June 1924. Shankland was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1878). Who Was Who in America lists him as a civil engineer, whereas Hoffmann states he was specifically a railroad and bridge engineer. Shankland worked for Burnham and Root from 1889. After Root's death in 1891, he became the partner in charge of plans and construction; the firm Burnham and Root subsequently became D.H. Burnham & Company. Shankland was the engineer of construction and chief engineer of works for the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago. Shankland established his own firm, E.C. & R.M. Shankland, in 1898.
