Astarita Painter (Greek vase painter, active in Campania)

Note: Red-figure painter active during the fourth century BCE in Campania. He is noted for an amphora housed at the Louvre depicting a Samnite warrior whose weapons are represented with white highlights. He is known for painting bell kraters. The scene of a warrior resting on his weapons appears in his work frequently. Trendall attributes 35 works to him. |

Son style se caractérise par des formes originales telles que les amphores situles, notamment une célèbre du Louvre dépeignant un guerrier samnite dont les armes sont réalisées par un rehaut de blanc. On connait aussi de lui plusieurs cratères en cloche. La scène du guerrier italique en position de repos sur ses armes et assez fréquente. 35 vases sont attestés par Trendall. |
