Theodoric, King of the Ostrogoths (Ostrogothic king, ca. 454-526)
|
Note: Son of the Ostrogothic chieftain Theodemir and Ereleuva; as a boy lived as a hostage in Constantinople, then the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. King of the Germanic Ostrogoths (475-526), ruler of Italy (493-526), regent of the Visigoths (511-526), and a patricius of the Eastern Roman Empire. In German and Icelandic legend, he is the model for the character "Dietrich von Bern." |
