Note: Markazī is located in the west-central region of Irān. Markazī is north-west of Eṣfahān and south-west of Tehrān. Possibly part of the Median Empire in the 1st Millennium BCE, the region was passed down to the Seleucids (312-64 BCE). During the rule of the Sassanian ruler, Khosrow Parvis (590-628 CE) this province was divided into four separate areas. In the Qajars dynasty (1794-1925), Arāk became one of the leading flourishing cities in the province, and is now the capital of the province. |
