Note: A former county of south Wales on the Bristol Channel, bounded by Mid Glamorgan to the north and west and Gwent to the east. It was created in 1974 and was replaced in 1996 by the county of Cardiff and the county borough of Vale of Glamorgan. The area Includes lower sections of basins of Rhymney, Taff, Ely, and Thaw rivers; there are sand dunes and sharp cliffs on coast. Cowbridge was the chief center until Cardiff dominated industry in the 1950s. Farming is found in the Vale of Glamoragn. Barry Island is popular resort town.
