Note: City in southeastern Turkey, located on the Bühtan River, in the southeastern foothills of the Taurus Mountains, 85 miles east of Diyarbakır. Founded ca. 100 BCE by King Tigranes I of Armenia (reigned 95-55 BCE) to be his southern capital. It was located on the borders of Armenia and Mesopotamia although the actual site is disputed. In 69 BCE, the Roman general Lucius Licinius Lucullus captured the city; in 59 BCE it was captured by the Roman general Corbulo.
