Note: Prehistoric site located 2 miles from Amesbury and 8 miles from Salisbury. Large standing stones surrounded by an earthwork, dating from Late Neolithic Period-Early Bronze Age (ca. 1800-1400 BCE). Studies have suggested three building periods. Although its religious functions are undetermined, axial alignments to the sun and moon suggest sky worship and burials are located on the premises. |
