Note: Former port and major center of the Hyksos and Egyptians from ca. 1783 BCE. As the main course of the Nile migrated eastward and the delta sedimented up and moved with the river, the city eventually lost its population. Excavations here have revealed various structures and wall paintings that are in Minoan style, but whether or not the Minoans were the artists is under debate. |
