Note: Limburg is a largely Flemish-speaking province of northeastern Belgium once part of the historic county of Limburg, which was divided between The Netherlands and Belgium in 1839. It is bounded by The Netherlands on the north and east, where the Meuse River marks the frontier. Its agricultural products include wheat, sugar beets, fruit and dairy products, notably the Limburger cheese that originated there. It also produces most of Belgium's coal. Its total territory covers about 935 square miles and, by a 2003 estimate, has a population of about 800,900. |
