Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. The reservation spans approximately 444,000 acres in Rosebud, Meade, and Big Horn Counties, Montana. The vast majority of reservation land is tribally owned. The reservation was initially established by an Executive Order dated November 26, 1884, and boundaries were enlarged through an additional Executive Order dated March 19, 1990. In recent decades, the Northern Cheyene Tribe has successfully attempted to consolidate alloted holdings and transfer non-Indian holdings to tribal control. |
