Note: Ruins of ancient town located south of the modern town Scoglitti. Camarina was founded by Syracuse in 599 BCE, but subsequently destroyed in 552 BCE. The city was re-founded by Gela in 461 BCE. Carthage razed the site in 405 BCE, but Timoleon restored it in 339 BCE. From the late third century BCE the town fell under Roman administration.
