Note: One of the oldest cities in the world, known by several ancient names. Multan's location at the entrance to the South Asia caused it to be taken by many conquerors on their way to Delhi. Was an important center of ancient kingdom of Sind, and a stop on the Silk Road. It was taken by Alexander the Great ca. 325 BCE, ruled by Muslim Arabs (711 CE), then by Muslim Turks under Mahmud of Ghazni (from 1005), Delhi emperors, Afghans, Sikhs, and the British (1849). |
