Note: City in eastern Uzbekistan, located northeast of Samarkand, in an oasis irrigated by the Sanzar River. An ancient settlement in the region, Dzhizak was located on a trade route from the Mediterranean, and was near a navigable passage from the Nuratau Mountains to the Zeravshan River valley. Dzhizak's industries include cotton and agricultural products.
