Note: Located on the Bay of Izmir, noted as one of the oldest known artificial harbors in the Aegean. Was an important settlement from the Early Bronze Age (3rd mill. BCE) to the classical period, when it was part of the Greek city Klazomenai. Noted for underwater 300-foot stone breakwater, traces of a pier jutting out from the breakwater, and a series of stratified harbor floors, including one dating to the sixth century BCE.
