Note: Former Roman town located near the present-day town of Silchester. Calleva Atrebatum was a node of the Roman road system in Britain. The Roman town was noted for its dyeworks. The town was once surrounded by walls. Most of the antiquities recovered from the site are in the Reading Museum. Remains of the Roman roads can be seen. There is also a 4th-century church here. Calleva Museum is dedicated to illustrating life in the Roman town. |
