Note: Kermānshāh is bordered by the provinces of Kordestān to the North and Hamadān to the east along with Lorestān to the southeast. It is situated in the fertile valley of the Qareh Su River. Kermānshāh, the main city, was founded in the 4th century CE by Bahram IV of the Sasanian dynasty and taken over by the Arabs in 640 CE. The Safavids (1501-1736) undertook the task of fortifying the town, and the Qajars pushed the Turkish forces. The province is famous for the Sassanid and Parthian, and Achaemenid reliefs at Bisotoun. |
