Note: Site was occupied continuously from Eneolithic & Iron Ages; founded by a Celto-Ligurian people called the Salyens in the 6th century BCE, a colony of Greek Marseilles; later was Gallo-Roman town; declined after Germanic invasion ca. 270 CE; was abandoned in late Middle Ages when alluvial mass came down hillside & buried the site.
