Note: Infrared reflectography is a digital imaging technique that allows study of layers beneath the surface of a painting by capturing absorption/emission characteristics of reflected infrared radiation. A complementary technique to x-radiography, IRR uncovers somewhat different information.The longer wavelengths of infrared radiation penetrate most surface pigments and reveal charcoal or graphite underdrawings, the underlying initial stages of a composition.

| Dutch ..... Infraroodreflectografie is een techniek voor digitale beeldvorming waarmee lagen onder het oppervlak van een schilderij kunnen worden bestudeerd doordat absorptie- en emissie-eigenschappen van gereflecteerde infraroodstraling worden vastgelegd. IRR is een techniek die als aanvulling bij röntgenradiografie wordt gebruikt en waarbij iets andere informatie aan het licht wordt gebracht. De langere golflengten van infraroodstraling dringen door de meeste oppervlaktepigmenten heen en leggen ondertekeningen van grafiet of houtskool bloot: de eerste fasen van een compositie. |
