Note: Genus containing around 450 shrubs, undershrubs, climbers, or trees native to tropical and subtropical areas throughout both hemispheres. They are so named from the movements of the leaves in certain species that mimic animal sensibility, including rapidly moving when touched. Certain plants called "mimosa" were formerly assigned to this genus, including Albizia julibrissin (silk tree) and Acacia dealbata (silver wattle). |

Dutch ..... Genus van ongeveer 450 struiken, lage struiken, klimplanten en bomen, inheems in tropische en subtropische gebieden op zowel het westelijk als het oostelijk halfrond. Ze worden zo genoemd vanwege de bewegingen van de bladeren van bepaalde soorten, die een dierlijk gevoel suggereren, zoals de snelle beweging als ze worden aangeraakt. Sommige planten met de naam 'mimosa' werden vroeger toegewezen aan dit genus, waaronder de Albizia julibrissin (zijdeboom) en de Acacia dealbata (zilveracacia). |
