Note: A natural dark pink madder colorant extracted from madder roots with an acid, then the precipitate, primarily pseudopurpurin, is redissolved in alum then reprecipitated with calcium carbonate to produce a pink lake. It became popular as an artist pigment after the madder plant was imported to Holland in the 16th century. |

Dutch ..... Een natuurlijk donkerroze meekrapkleurmiddel dat met een zuur aan meekrapwortels wordt onttrokken, waarna het bezinksel, voornamelijk pseudopurpurine, opnieuw wordt opgelost in aluin. Vervolgens laat men het opnieuw bezinken met calciumcarbonaat, waardoor een roze karmijnkleur ontstaat. Het werd populair als een pigment voor kunstenaars nadat de meekrap in de 16e eeuw in Nederland werd geïmporteerd. |
