Note: Music, often improvisational, originally developed around the turn of the 20th century by African Americans from elements of blues and ragtime, with syncopated rhythms and a European harmonic structure. Jazz consistently evolved throughout the 20th century with numerous phases, from a New Orleans style or swing, to "free jazz," for example, which emerged in the late 1950s. Therefore, jazz itself has no precise definition, however it has rarely been a completely composed music. |

Dutch ..... Vaak geïmproviseerde muziek, oorspronkelijk rond het begin van de 20ste eeuw ontwikkeld door Afro-Amerikanen uit elementen van blues en ragtime, met syncopische ritmes en een Europese harmonische structuur. Jazz bleef zich gedurende de 20ste eeuw ontwikkelen en kende talrijke fasen, bijvoorbeeld die van de swingstijl uit New Orleans en van de 'free jazz', die ontstond aan het einde van de jaren vijftig van de 20ste eeuw. Daarom heeft jazz ook geen exacte definitie, hoewel het zelden volledig gecomponeerde muziek betreft. |
