Note: Screens between the choir and body of the church, particularly the low screens that served to separate the chancel from the nave. Cancellos were widespread in the Early Christian period, particularly in Rome, and continued throughout the Middle Ages. This early form of screen was gradually expanded into the higher, deeper, and generally more elaborate rood screen. |

Dutch ..... Verwijst naar lage schermen die als scheidingswand tussen het koor en het schip fungeerden. In de vroegchristelijke periode werden ze veelvuldig toegepast, met name in Rome, en ze bleven tot in de Middeleeuwen in gebruik. Dit vroege type koorafsluiting werd geleidelijk uitgebreid tot het hogere, diepere en doorgaans rijker gedecoreerde koorhek. |
