Note: A very thin, opaque Asian paper that was made in China and imported to Europe by the Dutch East India Company from about 1768 to 1875. India paper is thin with a basis weight of 20 pounds with approximately 1000 pages to an inch, used for printing thin paper editions such as bibles and reference books. In the late 19th century, it was replaced for this use by an imitation called "Bible paper," which is a rag paper originally manufactured by Oxford University Press. |

Dutch ..... Dun maar ondoorzichtig lompenpapier, dat oorspronkelijk werd gemaakt voor de Oxford University Press als imitatie van papier uit oostelijk Azië. Vooral gebruikt voor het drukken van bijbels. Het verschil met 'Chinees papier' is dat dit laatste uit China afkomstig is, een dichtere vezelstructuur heeft en meestal wordt gebruikt voor staalgravures en houtsnede-afdrukken, en voor lithografisch overdrukpapier. |
Spanish ..... Papel de hilo fino, fuerte y opaco fabricado originalmente por la Oxford University Press imitando el papel de Asia Oriental. Utilizado fundamentalmente para imprimir biblias. Diferente al "papel de China", originario de China, que tiene una unión más sólida entre las fibras y es utilizado típicamente para grabados en acero y pruebas de xilografía y como papel de transferencia litográfica.
