Note: Outgrowths, usually green and flattened, that extend from the stem of a vascular plant. Botanically, leaves are an integral part of the stem system, and they are initiated in the apical bud along with the tissues of the stem itself. Leaves manufacture food for plants, which in turn ultimately nourish and sustain all land animals, directly or indirectly. |

Dutch ..... Uitgroeisels, doorgaans groen en plat, die voortkomen uit de stengel van een vaatplant. Vanuit botanisch oogpunt vormen bladeren een onlosmakelijk onderdeel van het stengelsysteem; ze ontstaan in de apicale kiem, samen met het weefsel van de stengel zelf. Bladeren produceren voedingsstoffen voor de planten, die op hun beurt uiteindelijk direct of indirect alle landdieren voeden en in stand houden. |
