Note: The milkweed subfamily of the flowering-plant family Apocynaceae, including more than 214 genera and about 2,400 species. Formerly treated as its own family Asclepiadaceae. However, molecular evidence suggests that the group is evolutionarily derived from Apocynaceae, and thus it has been recategorized as a subfamily by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group III (APG III) botanical classification system. |

Dutch ..... Subfamilie van de familie bloemdragende planten Apocynaceae, met meer dan 214 geslachten en zo'n 2400 soorten. Deze groep werd in het verleden gezien als een volwaardige familie, de Asclepiadaceae. Moleculair bewijs wijst er echter op dat de groep evolutionair afstamt van de Apocynaceae, en volgens de regels van het Angiosperm Phylogeny Group III (APG III) botanisch classificatiesysteem is het dan ook geherclassificeerd als subfamilie. |
