De Internationale Astronomische Unie (IAU) definieert een dwergplaneet als een hemellichaam dat in een baan om een ster beweegt en zwaar genoeg is om een door de zwaartekracht bepaalde vorm te hebben, maar, in tegenstelling tot een planeet, niet het gebied van zijn baan heeft vrijgemaakt van andere objecten. |
