Note: Culture and styles of the ancient Khmer people, distinguished in part by speaking the Khmer language, which is part of the larger Mon-Khmer language family today found throughout Southeast Asia. It is believed that the Khmer people originated in northern Asia, then migrated from northern territories to become established in Southeast Asia ca. 3,000 years ago, long before the Tai arrived. The more recent history of the Khmer people is bound to the history of Cambodia. Most of Khmer are followers of the Khmer Buddhism.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Cultuur en stijlen van het oude Khmervolk, dat zich onder andere kenmerkt doordat het de taal Khmer spreekt, die deel uitmaakt van de grotere Mon-Khmer-taalfamilie die tegenwoordig in diverse delen van Zuidoost-Azië wordt gesproken. Men gelooft dat het Khmervolk uit Noord-Azië afkomstig is en daarvandaan ongeveer 3000 jaar geleden naar Zuidoost-Azië is gemigreerd, lang voordat de Tai daar kwamen. De recente geschiedenis van het Khmervolk is verbonden met de geschiedenis van Cambodja. De meeste Khmer zijn volgelingen van het Khmer-boeddhisme.
