Note: A water-soluble polymer, commonly known as carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), composed of the sodium salt of modified cellulose. A viscous gel when dispersed in water at low concentrations, CMC forms a tough, non-soluble film in reaction with heavy metal salts. In conservation, it is used as an adhesive and as a poultice for cleaning stone. |

Dutch ..... Een in water oplosbaar polymeer dat ook wel carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) genoemd wordt en bestaat uit het natriumzout van gemodificeerde cellulose. Wanneer het met lage concentratie in water opgelost wordt, vormt CMC een kleverige gel, maar in reactie met zware metaalzouten wordt het een hard, niet-oplosbaar vlies. In de conserveringswetenschap wordt het gebruikt als kleefmiddel en als kompres om steen schoon te maken. |
