Record Type: concept
Brussels carpets (pile-woven carpets, <rugs by technique>, ... Furnishings and Equipment (hierarchy name))

Note: Machine-made floor coverings of a particular type, having the loops of the pile uncut. All colors run with the warp, concealed, and are brought above the foundation in loops to produce the pattern. The type is believed to have originated in or near Brussels; was popular in the first half of the 19th century. They differ from Wilton carpets, which are produced by a similar process but the loops are cut, producing a soft pile surface.
