Note: Refers to the style named for the temple-mountain built by King Yashovarman I (889-900 CE) at the center of the capital city for the veneration of the god Shiva. The architectural style of the temple marks the first establishment of the stepped pyramid form and served as the model for later temple-mountain complexes. The temple complex features a five-tiered construction cut directly from rock, tower-sanctuaries in quincunx formation, axially-oriented staircases at specific angles leading to shrines, secondary brick shrines, terraces, four images of the sacred bull Nandi guarding the base of the pyramid, and staircases flanked by seated lion monuments. Sculpture of this style exhibits a movement away from the more fleshy, polished styles toward more angular, bony, almost inhuman bodily depictions of deities in frontal stances. Sculptural figures are characterized by their broadness in scale, square jaws, abstract placid facial expressions, linearity in facial details, and lack of graceful movements.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指以巴肯寺加以命名的風格，此寺為耶蘇跋摩一世於其統治期間（西元889年至900年）在首都中心所建立的一座山形寺廟，用於祭祀濕婆神。這座廟宇建築首度採用階梯式金字塔的形式，並成為之後山形寺廟的典範。這座廟宇的特色是直接切割自岩石的五階層結構，聖殿塔呈梅花形排列，直達神壇且呈特殊角度的直軸狀樓梯、附屬磚造聖壇、階梯平台、守護著金字塔底端的四個牛神南迪（Nandi）雕像、樓階側邊座落著獅子雕像。此風格的雕刻由較有血肉感的拋光風格轉，變為瘦骨嶙峋不像人身並以正面站姿的神祇描繪。雕像的特色包括：放寬的比例、方正的下巴、抽象平和的臉部表情、臉部細節的線條與缺少優雅的動作。

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de stijl die is vernoemd naar de tempelberg die is gebouwd door koning Yashovarman I (889-900 n. Chr.) in het midden van de hoofdstad ter ere van de god Shiva. De architectuur van de tempel is het eerste voorbeeld van de getrapte piramidevorm en fungeerde als model voor latere tempelbergcomplexen. Het tempelcomplex bestaat uit vijf lagen die rechtstreeks uit de rotsen zijn gehouwen, met torens in een vijfpuntige rangschikking, axiale trappen onder specifieke hoeken die leiden naar sanctuaria, bakstenen sanctuaria, terrassen, vier beelden van de heilige stier Nandi die de basis van de piramide bewaakt, en trappen die worden geflankeerd door zittende leeuwen. Kenmerkend voor beeldhouwwerk in deze stijl is een overgang van de vlezigere, gepolijste stijlen naar meer hoekige, knokige, bijna onmenselijke voorstellingen van godheden, vanaf de voorzijde bezien. Gebeeldhouwde figuren worden getypeerd door hun brede gestalte, vierkante kaken, abstracte, onbewogen gelaatsuitdrukkingen, lineaire gezichtsdetails en het ontbreken van gracieuze bewegingen. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere al estilo que lleva el nombre del templo-montaña construido por el Rey Yashovarman I (889-900 DC) al centro de la ciudad capital para la veneración del dios Shiva. El estilo arquitectónico del templo marca el primer levantamiento de la forma pirámidal escalonada y sirvió como modelo para los complejos de templo-montaña posteriores. El ciudad templo presenta una construcción de cinco gradas cortadas directamente de la piedra, torres santuarios en ordenación quincunx, escaleras orientadas axialmente en ángulos específicos que llevan a los altares, altares de ladrillo secundarios, terrazas, cuatro imágenes del toro sagrado Nandi que custodian la base de la pirámide, y escaleras flanqueadas por monumentos de león sentados. La escultura de este estilo exhibe un alejamiento de los estilos pulidos más carnosos, hacia representaciones de cuerpos más angulares, óseos, casi inhumanos de deidades en posturas frontales.
