Note: School of painting that flourished in central Tibet from the late 17th to the 19th centuries; it is noted for its naturalistic figures; rich colors, especially orange and green; and elegant, meticulous detail, particularly in the garments and lotus petals. New Menri painting is also known for its emphasis on curves at the expense of straight lines. More emphasis is placed on architectural details and architectural settings replace the niche-shrine device of earlier paintings. New Menri paintings often combine architectural scenes with narrative, adopting a more distant viewpoint. Little open space is typical. Some New Menri paintings are valuable sources of information about Tibetan temple architecture, much of which no longer exists.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 新門塘派是十七世紀末至十九世紀間盛行於西藏中部的畫派，以其自然的人物、豐富的色彩，尤其是橙色與綠色的運用，以及特別可見於衣服與蓮花花瓣上的優雅精緻細節而聞名。此外，新門塘派的繪畫強調以曲線代替直線，更加重視建築細節，以建築布景取代了早期繪畫中的神龕式空間。新門塘經常將敘事觀點融入建築景象，採用較遠的視角。典型的新門塘繪畫空間相當窄小。有些新門塘繪畫為西藏的廟宇建築提供了珍貴的資訊，這些廟宇建築很多都不復存在。 |
| Dutch ..... Schilderschool die floreerde in Centraal Tibet vanaf de late 17de tot de 19de eeuw. Kenmerkend zijn de naturalistische afbeeldingen, de rijke kleuren (vooral oranje en groen), en de elegante, nauwkeurige details, in het bijzonder van kleding en lotusblaadjes. Van nieuwe Menri-schilderkunst is ook bekend dat de voorkeur niet uitging naar rechte, maar naar gebogen lijnen. Er is veel aandacht voor details in architectuur. Architecturale ensceneringen komen in plaats van de nissen en schrijnen van eerdere schilderwerken. In het werk van deze school krijgen architecturale scènes een verhaal, waardoor een meer afstandelijk gezichtspunt wordt ingenomen. Er is doorgaans weinig open ruimte. Sommige schilderijen van de nieuwe Menri-school vormen een waardevolle bron van informatie over de Tibetaanse tempelarchitectuur, die grotendeels verloren is gegaan. |
