Note: Temperate forests of differing vegetation types as influenced by variations in topography, soil, and exposure to wind, sun, and fire. Woody vegetation in the mediterranean forest is usually sclerophyll, having small, dark leaves covered with a waxy outer layer to retain moisture. Mediterranean forests are located where precipitation is less than 100 cm per year, concentrated in the winter season. |

Dutch ..... Gematigde bossen met vegetatievormen die uiteenlopen onder invloed van verschillen in topografie, bodem en blootstelling aan wind, zon en vuur. De houtachtige vegetatie in mediterrane bossen is doorgaans sclerofiel, met kleine, donkere bladeren die bedekt zijn met een wasachtige bovenlaag om vocht vast te houden. Deze bossen komen voor in gebieden met een regenval van minder dan 1000 mm per jaar, die geconcentreerd is in het winterseizoen. |
