Note: A machine-supported conservation technique developed by Christopher Clarkson for reattaching book boards which have detached due to very thin covering material at the joints, a problem that frequently arises with nineteenth-century books. A milling machine creates a slot in the spine edge of the board, into which a new cloth flange is inserted to form the new attachment. |

Dutch ..... Een door Christopher Clarkson ontwikkelde, met machines ondersteunde conserveringstechniek voor het opnieuw hechten van boekkaften die door de dunheid van het materiaal langs de voegen los hebben gelaten. Dit probleem komt veel voor bij boeken uit de 19e eeuw. Een rilmachine maakt een gleuf in de rug van de kaft, waarin een nieuwe stoffen zoom wordt aangebracht om de hechting tot stand te brengen. |
