Note: Members of the species that are the largest among anteaters, best known in the tropical grasslands of Venezuela, although it was formerly found in the lowland forests of Central America. They are about four feet in length exclusive of the tail, with long shaggy grey fur with a black breast band and white stripe on the shoulder, powerful claws, and long slender sticky tongue with which to lick up ants a termites.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 為體型最大的食蟻獸，以委內瑞拉熱帶草原上的大食蟻獸最為著名，但也曾出沒於中美洲的低地林。不包括尾巴體長約為四呎，皮毛為灰色，長而蓬鬆，胸前有黑帶，肩上有白條紋，爪極有力，以細長黏舌舔食螞蟻與白蟻。 |
