Note: Most common type of European hunting rifle from the late 17th to the mid-19th century, typically with a short octagonal barrel of large bore, a heavy stock, and brass fittings. Originally fitted with flintlocks, after 1820 they commonly were fitted with percussion locks. They were popular in the American colonies until superseded by American long rifles after the Revolution. |

Dutch ..... Het meest voorkomende Europese type jachtgeweren tussen het einde van de 17e en het midden van de 19e eeuw, gekenmerkt door een korte achthoekige loop met een groot kaliber, een zware geweerlade en koperen beslag. Van oorsprong uitgerust met vuursteensloten, maar na 1820, in Nederland na 1840, meestal voorzien van percussiesloten. |
Spanish ..... Fue el tipo más común de fusil europeo de caza desde las postrimerías del siglo XVII hasta mediados del siglo XIX, por lo general consistentes en un cañón corto y octogonal de gran calibre, una culata pesada y accesorios de bronce. Originariamente provistos de llaves de chispa, después de 1820 comúnmente provistos de llaves de percusión. Fueron populares en las colonias norteamericanas hasta su reemplazo después de la Revolución por fusiles largos norteamericanos. |
