malachite (mineral) (mineral, inorganic material, ... Materials (hierarchy name)) |
|
Note: A green mineral composed of basic copper carbonate occurring naturally with the blue copper carbonate mineral called azurite, with malachite being the more abundant of the two.The compact green variety has alternate irregular bands of light and dark green, and is used mainly for table tops, vases, veneer, and some jewelry. Both malachite and azurite have been used as gemstones and paint pigments since before 3000 BCE. |
